DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION

At RMB we are committed to building an equitable and inclusive environment for our diverse talent to thrive. We believe that diverse perspectives drive better solutions for our clients and communities and we strive to reflect the societies in which we operate at every level of the organisation.

At our core we choose to an inclusive culture where all voices are heard and respected – that’s #TheSumOfUs. This vision is realised through:

Employee Resource Groups

Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) play an important part in building a community within RMB. ERGs are open to all employees to participate as community representatives or allies and partner our leadership and Human Capital teams to foster an inclusive culture for sustainable change at RMB.

Our ERG initiatives are:

  • Inclusion – We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture by creating safe spaces for dialogue and experiences to broaden perspectives and enable a better understanding of our employees and communities
  • Gender equality – We are committed to enhancing gender equity at all levels of our organisation
  • Disability – Our disability forum focuses on increasing awareness of both visible and invisible disabilities. In addition to reasonable accommodation requests, employees can apply for funding towards assistive devices from the FirstRand disability fund
  • LGBTQIA+ – We are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice. We support ongoing awareness of LBGTQIA+ rights through SA Pride initiatives such as Nkoli Vogue Opera ; and ASK a Stranger – an RMB employee initiative to foster dialogue and promote understanding, challenge bias and promote inclusivity and diversity through conversation).

Developing diverse skills

RMB partners with Girl Code

RMB took another positive step towards addressing gender bias in the technology sector through its partnership with GirlCode – a non-profit organisation that equips young women to enter the workplace as confident, skilled software developers.

Parenting @RMB

Our employees play many roles, including as parents and caregivers. We believe that success at home translates into success at work. We have created special spaces and opportunities to support our employees in achieving a work-life balance through:

  • Parental transition coaching
  • On-site mothers room
  • On-site childcare facilities
  • Parental support groups

Religion

RMB is a multi-faith and multi-cultural organisation. Employees have access to multi-faith on-campus prayer rooms.

RMB – proud signatory to the UN WEPS

RMB is commitment to advancing gender equality by being a signatory to the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). The Principles offer guidance on how to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace and community.

RMB’s Africa’s Fearless Thinker

Africa’s ‘Fearless Thinker’ statue expresses how diversity and gender equality are valued and embraced at RMB. Cape Town-based artist Marieke Prinsloo-Rowe was commissioned by RMB to create an African ‘Fearless Thinker’ – taking her rightful place alongside a male lion. The work, which debuted at the 2018 RMB Turbine Art Fair, now forms part of RMB’s Think Precinct collection and is an inspiring, functional and engaging artwork to be enjoyed by all.

Gender Mainstreaming Awards

RMB has been a proud category sponsor for the annual Accenture Gender Mainstreaming Awards (GMAs) for the past three years. RMB’s Africa’s Fearless Thinker award is derived from the Africa’s Fearless Thinker statue at RMB’s head office in Sandton.
